White as Snow
What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
O precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
I love the words of this famous hymn. They date back to 1876. We can thank Robert Lowry, a Baptist preacher, educator, and hymn writer. It’s a classic hymn, known to many. For those of us who grew up in church, we heard this hymn often. I’m thankful for the sacred words. They have been tucked into a special place in my heart.
I couldn’t help but think of them as I looked out over the freshly fallen snow. It was quiet. It was untouched. So clean, so peaceful.
Aside from the fun that we can have with the snow, the clean, peaceful look is one of the things I most enjoy. I’m reminded of the price Jesus paid not only for me, but for you.
Hebrews 9:22
In fact, according to the law of Moses, nearly everything was purified with blood. For without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness.
As I spent time loving my snow day, I was reminded of the forgiveness given to us because of what Jesus did on the cross. We did nothing to deserve that, yet because He loved us so much, He died for us. True forgiveness for our sin nature, offering us a clean slate. Available again and again and again.
That is Jesus.
That is love.
I challenge you today, even if you don’t like snow, to thank God for salvation and the gift of His son, Jesus. Don’t take your salvation for granted. There’s a hurting world out there that needs people like you.
